A scheduled message lets you write something now and send it at a date and time you choose. You can prepare a birthday greeting, a meeting reminder, or a channel post in advance. Until it is sent, the message stays in a separate queue where you can edit the text, change the time, or cancel it.

This guide uses a channel called “My notes.” The same feature works in private chats and groups where you can send messages. In a channel, you need permission to publish posts.

This guide uses Telegram Web. The steps are similar in the Telegram apps for desktop, iOS, and Android.

## Set the sending time

**1\.** Open the chat or channel and write your message. For example: “See you on October 10 at 10:00.” Leave it in the message field.

[![Write your message and leave it in the message field.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/01-compose.nbMwuAsJ_Z19Ak5l.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/01-compose.nbMwuAsJ_Z19Ak5l.webp>)

Write your message and leave it in the message field.

**2\.** Right-click the round send button beside the message field. On a phone, press and hold the send button.

[![Right-click the send button to open more actions.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/02-send-button.BcOeQh-S_1usOPv.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/02-send-button.BcOeQh-S_1usOPv.webp>)

Right-click the send button to open more actions.

**3\.** Choose **Schedule Message** from the menu.

[![Choose Schedule Message.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/03-schedule-menu.B5SR_H-S_1TMfvz.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/03-schedule-menu.B5SR_H-S_1TMfvz.webp>)

Choose Schedule Message.

**4\.** Select a future date and enter the hour and minutes. In this example, the message will be sent on October 10 at 09:00. Check the time on the button below. For a one-time message, leave **Repeat** set to **Never**.

[![Choose a day and enter the hour and minutes.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/04-date-time.BxK0Ae57_ZgDD7q.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/04-date-time.BxK0Ae57_ZgDD7q.webp>)

Choose a day and enter the hour and minutes.

**5\.** Click the send button showing the chosen date and time. This adds the message to the queue.

[![The button with the date and time saves the message to the queue.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/05-schedule-confirm.DvMuCx9j_oLv4b.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/05-schedule-confirm.DvMuCx9j_oLv4b.webp>)

The button with the date and time saves the message to the queue.

**6\.** Check **Scheduled Messages**. The date appears above the message and the time beside its text. Once these are correct, you can close Telegram. If the list does not update straight away, [open the queue again](<https://go-to-chat.com/articles/how-to-schedule-a-message-in-telegram/#find-queue>).

[![The date is above the message and the sending time is beside its text.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/06-queue-result.DG1kKsEl_Z1Puq7a.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/06-queue-result.DG1kKsEl_Z1Puq7a.webp>)

The date is above the message and the sending time is beside its text.

After the message is saved, Telegram sends it from its server. Your app does not need to stay open and your device can be offline at the scheduled time. You do need an internet connection to save the message to the queue in the first place.

## Find your scheduled messages

**1\.** Open the chat or channel where you scheduled the message and click the calendar icon beside the message field.

## Cancel a scheduled message

**1\.** In the scheduled-message queue, right-click the message and choose **Delete**.

[![Delete cancels the waiting message.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/17-delete-menu.kleZs4hK_ODmgY.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/17-delete-menu.kleZs4hK_ODmgY.webp>)

Confirm deletion of the selected message.

**3\.** Make sure the message has disappeared from the queue. It will no longer be sent at the scheduled time.

[![The queue is empty after its only message is cancelled.](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/19-empty.c8tByPy0_Z2tnbUd.webp>)](<https://go-to-chat.com/_astro/19-empty.c8tByPy0_Z2tnbUd.webp>)

The queue is empty after its only message is cancelled.

Deleting a queued message is different from deleting one that has already been sent. If the scheduled time has passed, check the regular chat or channel feed.

## Frequently asked questions

**Will the message be sent if my phone is off?**

Yes, as long as the message has already been saved to Telegram’s queue. Telegram’s server handles delivery, so your phone or computer can be off. If you lost your connection while creating the message, first check that it appears in Scheduled Messages.

**Can the recipient tell that I scheduled the message?**

In a private chat, the recipient cannot see your queue or its contents before sending. At the scheduled time, they receive a normal message with no scheduled-message label. The message itself is visible once it has been sent.

**Do I need Telegram Premium?**

You do not need a subscription to schedule a one-time message. Repeating messages are a separate Premium feature. You can leave repetition turned off when scheduling a normal message.

**Can I schedule a channel post?**

Yes, if you have permission to post in that channel. The [scheduling instructions](<https://go-to-chat.com/articles/how-to-schedule-a-message-in-telegram/#schedule>) demonstrate this process. The post will appear in the channel feed at the chosen time.

**Where should I look if I cannot see the queue?**

Each chat or channel has its own queue, so check that you opened the right conversation. A message that has already been sent or deleted will no longer be there. The [section on finding scheduled messages](<https://go-to-chat.com/articles/how-to-schedule-a-message-in-telegram/#find-queue>) shows where to open the queue.

**Can I change a message before it is sent?**

Yes. While it remains in the queue, you can edit its text or change its sending time separately. Follow the [editing and rescheduling instructions](<https://go-to-chat.com/articles/how-to-schedule-a-message-in-telegram/#edit-scheduled>), then check the saved result in the queue.
